Ion Exchange- refers to exchanging or switching ions in the water. The most common form of this is a Water Softener whereby through the process of ion exchange it switches Calcium/Magnesium for Sodium. This is done mostly to prevent scaling in pipes, hot water tanks and boilers etc.
